Leather garments are hugely popular these days, not only because of the trendy look but also due to their authentic appeal and durability. Shopping for leather clothes is often bewildering, as you need to pick the best from the array of choices laid before you. Oh heck, finding the right texture of leather even scared the hell out of me!!! Basically, for the production of leather, skin of animals like goat, sheep, cow etc. are used. Depending upon the part of hide utilized as raw materials in the fabrication of leather outfit, it can be classified into various textures.  Grain, relating to leather material, is known to be the part of animal skin that is obtained by removing the hair.  This grain can be further divided into two layers- top grain and split leather. Top grain leather is the material that is made just by removing the existing hair on the epidermis of the hide.  This is the most natural form of leather. Thus, the obtained grain does not require any kind of finishing or polishing.  This leather is always buffed out from animal markings and is dipped in dye to add interesting colors. Aniline and Semi-aniline are two interesting ways, which is used for final touchup. In aniline finish, the top grain leather is dipped into a transparent dye solution that evenly polishes the leather without diminishing its natural effect. On the other hand, when an extra layer of dye is given to prevent the stains on leather, it is known semi-aniline finish. The vast majority of superior leather outfits is made out of this type.  This leather, being in its natural lavishing form, is the most popular and expensive kind of leather and is extremely comfortable to wear.   • A smooth surface, which is extremely easy to clean
  • It will last for years if handled with proper care
  • It is naturally breathable and water repellent
As every coin has two sides, similarly there are certain cons of getting top grain leather. Top grain leather outfits are high in price but its amazing texture makes it worth buying. Besides this, the product needs a “break in” before wearing for longer span of time Split Leather:-

Split leather is made from the remaining part of skin after removal of the top grain leather.  This sort of leather is firmer and comparatively cheaper than top grain leather.  Besides this, the leather outfits made from split-textured leather is fragile and has more chances of being damaged, if not handled with proper care. Beneficial side of buying Split Leather outfits:-
  • No need to “break in” the product
  • It costs relatively low
  • Outfits made by split leather are comfortable to wear
Compared to top grain leather, split hide has shorter life span and are bit harder to clean and maintain. Corrected Grain Leather:-

Corrected grain leather is leather from which the grain layer is partially removed by burnishing to a depth determined by the raw material used. The grain surface is abraded to take away the imperfections before the surface coating is applied.  An appealing grain pattern is then, embellished into the leather surface.   To ascertain the feel of corrected grain leather, you can determine its fuzzy feeling on one side and smooth on the other. Pigmented and semi- aniline are the two types of texture finishing methods used for corrected grain leather.  However, pigmented leather is preferred mostly as it removes scratches more precisely. Low-grade quality hide is used for manufacturing the corrected grain leather. The finish thickness of the outfit designed with coated leather does not go beyond 30{b3eea736f49b1f74b0eedd8a5b78ce62d6fa2d27ec21c19b111c7b8ba7a5b728} but is in excess of 0.15mm’. However, coated leather has fine polishing touch, but it lacks the natural look, which you get with top grain leather. Nubuck / Suede Leather

These textures of leather are formed by splitting the layer between the hide and the grain.  The surface of such textures is buffed to create a soft and soothing layer. Nubuck or Suede Leather is cheaper than full grain leather.  However, these kinds of material are fragile in nature and thus are more prone to cracks and damages particularly when exposed to any liquid. Suede though may not be a best option, but still fashionistas tend to buy the jackets and coats made of leather suede because of its classy, velvet- like appeal.   • Its costs low then the top grain leather
  • Easily available

Coated or Bicast Leather

Coated or Bicast Leather is the synthetic version of split leather, which is made my applying a coat of polyurethane to the leather surface. Initially, this kind of leather material was highly used in the shoe industry, but these days because of its alluring appeal, high durability and economic price, it is used for clothing and upholstery purpose. It the surface appearance of your leather outfit is shiny, the term- coated leather is acceptable. Beneficial side of buying Coated or Bicast Leather outfits:-
  • Coated leather makes the outfit look beautiful and striking
  • It is Easy to maintain
  • Adds durability to your outfit

Faux Leather

/>Faux is a man-made leather material that is blended by using synthetic material. However, this sort of leather texture is widely used for clothing and commercial purpose, because of its inexpensive value and durable quality. Beneficial side of buying Faux Leather outfits:-
  • Economical
  • Realistic quality
  • Durable
  • Easy to clean and maintain
Though it ensembles like original leather, but still nothing can beat the genuineness of authentic leather. However, when I come across these leather textures I found that, all these sorts of leather have their own characteristic look, feel and thus are used for various purposes. Whether it is being upholstery or stylish clothing options, leather has always been in trend and fashion as it looks classy, sophisticated and is durable.
